Description A delightful early Worcester cream jug, the feather-moulded ovoid body with a pronounced lip and moulded double scroll handle with a curled thumbrest, painted inside with an underglaze blue border of flowerheads and scrolls, the front of the jug brightly enamelled with the 'Staghunt' pattern within an Arabesque shaped gold reserve.
Signed / Dated Workman's mark in underglaze blue
Condition Good condition, with restoration to the lip rim.
Provenance The Staghunt pattern occurs on Chinese porcelain enamelled in London and it is likely that this jug is also the work of an independent London enameller, perhaps in Kentish Town. The plain moulded jug, just with its underglaze blue border could have been bought from Worcester's Aldersgate Street warehouse where feather-moulded teawares were sold in blue and white. A jug of the same shape, also with an underglaze blue border and added London decoration of insects, is illustrated by Sandon and Spero (1996), fig. 453.
