An elegant French rosewood box with brass inlay “Cave a Liqueur” or Cellarette
I have located two other examples both with strong geometric designs and the neoclassical stars on the bottles, one dated to c.1840 and the other 1874.
The bottles are in the “facon boheme” and are finely blown. The fashion for “facon boheme” and neoclassicism fell completely out of favour by 1875 to be replaced by the gothic Pugin styles.
