Description

A rare Tournai low teacup and saucer finely painted with fables after Jean de la Fontaine. Gold tower mark. The cup is painted with the fable: The Fox and the Monkey: The Moral: The ill-natured rich reserve their store and delight in seeing their neighbours poor. The saucer is painted with the fable: The Fox, The Wolf, and the Horse (on this saucer, only the Wolf and horse are represented) The Moral: Friends can betray you. Jean de la Fontaine collected and wrote 12 separate books consisting of 239 fables. Cup 4.5cm High Saucer 12cm Dia.
